Fall River community discussion group "gets lesson in free speech"

CBC has an audio interview with a Fall River woman who was blocked from inviting an Occupy Nova Scotia member to talk to a monthly Discussion Group she helps organize.

Sheila Barling says she hadn't even got so far as booking a date when she heard from the area councillor that he would do everything in his power to block the event from happening at the LWF community hall, the same place the discussion group has been meeting for two years, and which he is a board member of.

Dalrymple told Barling that after hearing from him (God know what he told them, probably some variation of this) his fellow LWF board members were "horrified" that Occupy Nova Scotia would come, and indicated to the group that they were not welcome there anymore. Barling's group is now looking for another venue for their discussion group.

Previous topics discussed in the group were privacy rights, a historian's tour of Pier 21, Shakespearian sonnets, and a session with an Imam. These apparently were topics Councillor Barry Dalrymple deemed worthy.
